According to the Guinness World Records:
“The tallest ice sculpture measures 16.22 m (53 ft 2.58 in) and was achieved by People’s Government of Yichun City, in Yichun, China, on 19 January 2010. The sculpture was in the shape of a dinosaur. It used about 850 cubic meters (30,017.47 cubic feet) of ice.”
You know what this sculpture screams? Besides the obvious astonishing height and intricate detail, this sculpture also screams teamwork.
Often times ice sculpting requires several steady hands and skillful minds, which is why it makes a fantastic group team building activity.
Group Team Building Activities: Ice Sculpting
During this event, teams come together to create a uniquely majestic masterpiece. I mean, if you stop and think about it, how many times in life are you granted the opportunity to create an ice sculpture?
Once everyone is assembled into groups, a demonstration is given by one of our Master Ice Sculptors. The brief demonstration presents how to handle and utilize the tools necessary to carve and sculpt the ice.
After you are debriefed, you and your team will begin to work together in bringing your visions to life. Every event has a theme, which can help your team decide what to sculpt.
For example, the picture above displays a team whose theme was Boston, and they therefore chose to base their sculpture around the Boston Bruins’ logo during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Pretty impressive, right?
When all is said and done, and the sculptures are all completed, each carving will be judged and a winner will be chosen. However, no matter who is deemed victorious, every team will feel a sense of success and affirmation.
Based on past experience, teams really tend to love this program, making it an awesome group team building activity.
